Novena of Grace |
We invite you to pray the Novena of Grace with us in honour of St Francis Xavier, from Monday 4th March to Tuesday 12th March. Mass will be at 10am on Monday to Friday. On Saturday 9th March, Mass will be at 11.30am and 6pm. On Sunday 10th March, Masses are at 10.30 am and 12 noon. It is traditional to pray the Novena for a particular intention; to ask for what you desire from God. In these difficult times, many people will have their own special intentions. Pray for your own needs, those of your loved ones, or the needs of the world. In asking God for favours or graces, we acknowledge that God is the giver of all gifts. We come faithfully for the nine days of the Novena to pray for the grace we most need at this time. “All will be well, all manner of things will be well.” – Julian of Norwich
Background The first Novena of Grace of Francis Xavier is said to have taken place in Goa, India, in 1615, when a boy, crippled from birth, was cured. After Francis Xavier was named a Saint on 12th March 1622, the Novena of Grace grew in popularity around the world. It reached Ireland in 1712 when it was first celebrated in Mary’s Lane Chapel in St Michan’s Parish, Dublin. |
