Raise the Roof

A BIG thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our collection for the church roof in Miya Parish, Bauchi, Nigeria. We raised the fantastic sum of €5,065. As part of our 75th anniversary celebrations, we presented our donation at the Special Mass on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on Monday 7th October 2013 at 7pm, celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles J. Brown.

John Moore, Bishop of Bauchi (1996-2010), was born in Harold’s Cross in 1942 and was an altar server in our church.

Following our appeal, we were delighted to hear that the roof was up by January 2014. In 2015, we received Easter Greetings from Bauchi, Nigeria:

We are doing very well in Miya. Last year in December the bishop blessed our new church in Miya.

It was a beautiful ceremony. The people are so happy with the new worship place. We celebrated our first Easter ceremonies in the new church. The people love it. We are grateful for the tremendous support we got from Harold’s Cross. We thank God for what he is doing in the life of the people of Miya. Do give our regards to the parishioners of Harold’s Cross.

Stay well and God bless. Fr Emmanuel Edet

For those joining in Mass from home, by making an Act of Spiritual Communion we express our faith in Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and ask him to unite himself with us. This prayer was written by St Alphonsus de Liguori:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
