Month of the Rosary

October is known as the month of the Rosary. In one of her apparitions to the children of Fatima in 1917, Our Lady announced “I am the Lady of the Rosary”. Pope Francis says, “I invite everyone to rediscover, especially during this month of October, the beauty of the prayer of the rosary, which has nourished the faith of the Christian people through the centuries.”

We encourage you to pray the Rosary during this month. Over the centuries, the praying of the Rosary has proven to be very powerful in people’s lives. The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary – our Parish Feast – on 7th October each year was instituted by Pope Saint Pius V on the anniversary of the Naval Battle of Lepanto 1571. It was believed that the Christians were victorious because of their devotion to saying the Rosary and the intercession of Our Lady.

Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise.
You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts.
We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another,
in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation.
May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us.
May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace.
May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more
than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service.
We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us.
St Kevin, pray for us.
St Brigid, pray for us.
