Do This In Memory

The next Mass for the Do This in Memory programme will be at 10.30 am on Sunday 17th December, the third Sunday of Advent. The Church year begins with the season of Advent (which means ‘Coming’) in preparation for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. In the Gospel, John the Baptist appears as a witness to speak for the light of Christ. John prepared the way for Jesus – as we too are preparing for Jesus at this time.

The angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary to explain that she would give birth to Jesus. Because Mary said ‘Yes’ to God, we all can celebrate Christmas. During this busy time, let us pause to make room in our hearts and minds so that, with Mary, we may say ‘Yes’ to Christ.

At Mass, the third candle on the Advent wreath will be lit. Rose is the colour for the third Sunday of Advent, known as Gaudete Sunday from the Latin word ‘rejoice’. The other candles are purple to symbolise both penitence and royalty – Christ as the Prince of Peace.

Eucharist

The Do This In Memory programme aims to involve parents, parish leaders and the wider parish community in preparing children for First Eucharist. The sacramental preparation of children is the responsibility of the home, school and parish working together in partnership. Together with Baptism and Confirmation, the celebration of First Eucharist opens the door to full membership of the Christian community.

Loving God,
We call to mind the children who will prepare for First Eucharist during the coming year and all who care for them. We ask your blessing on all of them and on all of us gathered here. May we always walk as children of the light and be prepared to share that light with those whom we meet.
