Fr Ronald Neville

FrNeville

With great sadness, we announce the death of Fr Ronnie Neville, our much loved Pastor Emeritus. Fr Neville died peacefully in St Vincent’s Private Hospital on 17th March 2013. May he rest in peace. We extend our sympathy to his brother Canon James, sister Eithne, sister-in-law Margaret, niece, nephew, grandniece, grandnephew, Archbishop Martin, the Priests of the Diocese and the Opus Dei Prelature, relatives, parishioners and a large circle of friends. A special appreciation to all those who prayed for and helped Fr Neville during his illness, particularly our sacristan Edith Compton.

Fr Neville was born on 25th March 1933 in Kilfinny, Adare, Co. Limerick and was ordained on 31st May 1958. He was Chaplain of Holy Faith Convent Celbridge 1958-1960 and Chaplain in Cherry Orchard Hospital 1960-1961. Between 1961 and 1979, Fr Neville was Chaplain to the Defence Forces, Collins’ Barracks and UN service overseas (Congo and elsewhere). He was then Curate in Clonskeagh Parish until 1991, when he was appointed Parish Priest in Rolestown. Fr Neville served as Parish Priest of Harold’s Cross between 1999 and 2008, after which he became Pastor Emeritus.

An avid supporter of Limerick hurling, Fr Ronnie was delighted on the evening of Saturday 16th March – 24 hours before he died – to welcome some of the players, who visited him in hospital to share with him their win over Dublin in Croke Park. The Neville family have long associations with following and playing hurling; in fact, Neville Park in Rathkeale is named for the family, who donated the land to the GAA for a pitch there.

Reposing at Fanagans Funeral Home, Lwr Kimmage Road on Tuesday 18th March from 3pm. Removal on Tuesday evening to Church of Our Lady of The Rosary, Harold’s Cross arriving at 5pm. Requiem Mass on Wednesday 19th March at 12pm followed by removal to St Mary’s Church, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick arriving at 7pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday 20th March at 12pm followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.

Building Hope

Pilgrim God, we give you thanks and praise.
You constantly journey with us even in our darkness and doubts.
We seek your way of loving kindness to walk together as one family.
Open our eyes to recognise you in the faces of one another,
in the breaking of bread and in the splendour of creation.
May the risen Christ sow seeds of hope and new life deep within us.
May our hearts and minds be filled with your Word, bringing forth truth, justice and peace.
May the Holy Spirit working in and through us do much more
than we can dare to imagine as we live out our baptismal calling in humble and loving service.
We make this our prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
St Laurence O’Toole, pray for us.
St Kevin, pray for us.
St Brigid, pray for us.
