Archbishop Visit

Congratulations and blessings to the children attending St Clare’s Primary School and Harold’s Cross National School who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 2nd March. Many thanks to their parents, teachers, the parish team and all who helped to make the day so special. We were excited to welcome Archbishop Diarmuid Martin as chief celebrant.

Our House of Brigid Fellows, Biz, Emma and Geoff, were thrilled to share in the joy of this sacrament with all the children. They visited the children in the schools and provided catechesis after Mass as part of our Confirmation preparation programme. Archbishop Martin was delighted with the results achieved.

Special thanks to our sacristan, Edith Compton, who masterminded the entire operation and still found time to put on her Benemerenti Medal! Master of Ceremonies to the Archbishop, Fr Damian McNeice, was very impressed at how well organised everything was.

When the Russian–Finnish boundary line was being redrawn, a farmer was told that the border passed right through the middle of his land. He therefore had the option of having his land taken into Russia or Finland. He promised to give the matter serious thought, and after some weeks announced that he wanted to live in Finland. A host of incensed Russian officials descended on him to explain the advantages of belonging to Russia, not Finland.
The man heard them out, then said, “I am in complete agreement with everything you say. In fact, it has always been my desire to live in Mother Russia. But at my age I simply won’t be able to survive another of those Russian winters.”
